The communities of Evergreen, Genesee and Idaho Springs are located in the foothills to the west of the Denver metropolitan area. Evergreen and Genesee reside in Jefferson County and Idaho Springs is located in Clear Creek County.

Evergreen is located along Bear Creek and is the location of Evergreen Lake. This area has numerous hiking trails as well as a paved pathway system. The southern section of the the paved pathway system is around 3-miles long and follows alongside Evergreen Parkway and wraps around Evergreen Lake. The northern section is around 2-miles long and follows alongside Bergan Parkway and goes past the Buchanan Park Recreation Center and Bergen Valley Elementary School.

Genesse is adjacent to Interstate 70. In the Genesee area, there is a 2.4-mile long paved pathway located to the north of Interstate 70 from Rainbow Hill Road to Mt. Vernon Country Club Road.

Idaho Springs is also located along Interstate 70 to the west of Genesee. There are several sections of the Clear Creek Greenway system of paved pathways in this area. the separate sections of the greenway are connected by local roadways.
